"COURAGE - With Kristian Zahrtmann as teacher" A 2 week workshop with Paradisbakkeskolen's reception classes for asylum and refugee children from 6th - 9th grade at Bornholm Art Museum.

Based on the Bornholm painter Kristan Zahrtmann, who was ahead of his time regarding both colours and motifs, we worked in the exhibition halls of the art museum on the theme "courage". The courage to choose wild colours, the courage to stand out and the courage to look at ourselves and the world with new curious eyes.

The students worked with visual arts and theatre. Paintings were transformed into theatre scenes, painting and drawing techniques were used for daring personal expressions, and the students, many of whom had never been to an art museum, became acquainted with one of the great innovators of Danish art. A collaboration with visual artist Tilde Lerche Engstrøm.             Supported by THE DANISH ARTS FOUNDATION

Based on each participant's work (a 3-5 minute solo), the course explored what lies behind the artist's creation of an artist´s particular material... The artistic process uncovered central themes for each artist. The course focused on how the artist can explore and develop their essential themes in the artistic work in the future. The participants witnessed each other's processes and the course ended with a public showing.

"It's really been a landmark! It´s actually been amazing, the lightness that you work with and the gentleness… but not allowing us to stay in our comfort zones", Participant.
